Alotion Golf Course Maintenance Facilities - West Little Rock:
America’s lights out tour ALOTION
This complex of specialized buildings provides support for Little Rock’s most exclusive golf club. Warren Stephens offered exclusive memberships to 200+- of Little Rock’s most important business people to join the newly formed club. The invitation was virtually non discretionary (an offer they couldn’t refuse). The initial membership was $100,000 plus. I heard that only two individuals elected to turn down the offer.
Stories abound about the amenities of the club. The clubhouse is designed to model a clubhouse in North Carolina. A North Carolina architect was chosen to do the clubhouse.
Mr. Stephens put together several sections of land south of highway 10 adjacent to Lake Maumelle. Story goes that several adjacent properties were noted to have a higher elevation than the Club property and Mr. Stephens acquired the land so no adjacent property owner could have a view of the Alotion Club or Golf Course.
The Course is beautiful what parts I have seen. I did see the Clubhouse when it was under construction. The long view of Lake Maumelle is spectacular. The course has miles of stone retaining walls where the course required cuts and fills.
When we were working on the Maintenance Facilities Mr. Stephens noted that was one fairway where a small part of one of our building could be seen he suggested that we make some adjustments to shield the view. I believe we used a landscaping device to obscure the exposure.
At one time we were contacted to provide plans for a wine cellar of wine storage facility. This was spur-of-moment project to construct this building to house a wine collection that was in NY. The rumor was that the Club was to be taxed some exurban amount or be relocated before the 1st. of the year. I worked like heck to get plans ready for wine storage building for CDI to bid only to have the request abandoned 8 to 10 days later. Somehow the need to immediately move the Club’s wine or be taxed was Lawyer’s out.
Our work on the maintenance building does not reflect the refinement of the clubhouse, private residences and golf course. However, the maintenance equipment used on the Course is the best money can buy.
