Regional 200 Man Correctional Facility Regional Locations – Arkansas
This study was created to address the need for new updated Correctional Facilities that could be constructed in regional areas throughout the state. Studies support that living conditions are much improved where inmates are housed in areas that are located in areas closer to family and friends.
This 200 man unit consisted of three separate pods of 67 beds each. Support elements are centrally grouped for control and functional purposes. The plan included a gymnasium, classrooms, counseling, chapel / visiting, administration, and laundry. The facility is self contained with a individual power plant.
The housing pods are two level buildings and expansion is obtained by adding additional pods.
WD&D had correctional experience with the State and Tom Adams and I reviewed several installations in Arkansas. We also were asked to review a new facility in Mississippi that had been built recently at a low cost per bed. This facility was the historical Parchman Farm. The building was a pre engineered structure and did have some cost saving ideas. The experience to tour these facilities would be enlightening for anyone who entertained a life of crime.
