HENRY KOEN FEDERAL BUILDING - Russellville, Arkansas
The new addition to the Henry Koen Federal building in Russellville was awarded a LEED Gold Certification. The Project for the National Forestry Service Offices in Russellville included an update of the original 1927 historical building and provide new construction space to serve expanded operations. The goal set by the Forest Service was to achieve LEED Certification. A team was assembled with specific goals to provide architectural plans that would meet all identified space requirements within set budget limitations. Funds for the project were allocated for the fiscal year and a time frame was also stipulated. The contractor was 999999 of Russellville and Architects out of Little Rock. We worked with TME as a LEED coordinator.
The new addition was designed to compliment the original building. We matched original floor lines with a connecting stairs and elevator. The materials used were selected to match original window design and the stone was quarried from the original quarry located in the county.
The project was priced separately for the new construction and update of the existing building. However, the funding for the existing structure was shifted to the following fiscal year. We worked with LEED to certify the new construction separately. LEED certification is granted on performance compliance. The building systems are monitored and must function as designed. To maintain the certification retesting is required to confirm the building continues to meet projected goals.
