Library University of Arkansas at Monticello - Monticello, Arkansas
The program goal was to design a signature building that would become the main focus of the campus. Student recruitment has become very competitive. The University wanted a building that would communicate with the student and parents. Campus choices are made by first impressions.
The building occupies the center of the campus physically and symbolically. The plan is organized by a central pedestrian street that provides a central axis for circulation through the building. A coffee shop was included in the program to provide a student socialization magnet. The Strategic location of the coffee shop becomes a focal point that visually connects the Student Center to the main campus. This link is further enhanced by a landscaped, terraced plaza. The project has been well received by the faculty and the student body.
