Village Shopping Center Little Rock, Arkansas
The Village Shopping Center was the first large shopping center in Little Rock. The site had the largest vehicle count located at Asher Avenue and University Streets than any commercial property in the sixties. The site intersection was occupied by three other commercial centers still retains a high traffic count. The area is now stable with the presence and expansion of the U of A Little Rock Campus.
The project was part of a 1980’s revitalization of a center that had lost most of the tenants and the most visible tenant was a Mexican Restaurant that now no longer exists.
The site was also the last location for a cinema-scope theater where the seating and screen a round setting and building. The viewing of features in the theater was great.
The program included a new facade and a set of criteria that included signage, glazing and paving standards. A new UA theater was also planed to replace the small seating theater. The new Theater would include the new paradigm of multiple choice features and one large screen and THX sound. We worked with UA Engineers and designed this building, but it was not constructed. There was interest in the site for other grand use and the Theater project fell through.
