Kappa Sigma Fraternity U of A Fayetteville University of Arkansas – Fayetteville, Arkansas
A rare opportunity to work on the KZ Fraternity house in Fayetteville was presented when two Executive members Ron Tabor and Charles Whiteside offered Jack Tucker, Architects, Memphis and Myself SGB Architects both former members to do major renovation on this classic Fraternity House Located at 711 W. Dickson the main entry to the U of A Campus.
Jack had been working on proposals to generate interest and Ron suggested that we joint venture the project. It was great working with Jack, Ron and Charlie. I had worked with Jack years before in Fayetteville in Fay Jones, Architect, FAIA office and had great respect for his talent.
It was a task to meet all the program requirements and stay within the financial limitations. Working closely with Ron and Charlie and Kinco Construction in a modified design build arrangement we successfully achieved all of the program goals.
The new addition added approximately 15,000 SF and completely remodeled four floor of the existing house. We worked diligently to maintain the design character of the original structure and blend in the new construction in a seamless complementary manner.
The new facility added dining activity space, new commercial kitchen, study rooms, laundry and two floors of semi-private rooms with study space in each room. We used durable materials throughout and the young men display a pride in the facility and wear and tear is normal for a college dormitory.
